Crochet Breast Prosthesis Pattern

I was approached about a special website and whether or not I had seen it before. It was called Knitted Knockers. Interesting! A group of gals that knit/crochet fake breasts for women who have undergone mastectomies or other breast procedures. I was asked if I could make a pair for someone in need. I felt more than happy to try because, unfortunately, I am no stranger to breast cancer and I can relate. I noticed the knocker website is geared toward knitting, though, not crochet. While they do provide a crochet version, I just wasn’t happy with it. I did a lot of web surfing and could only find a couple of breast patterns but they just weren’t what I was looking for. For example, in one of the patterns you couldn’t remove the stuffing, so you couldn’t wash them. Ick! So…I came up with my own pattern and I want to share it with you.

Rnd 25: Leave hook in place with yarn taunt, measure out a 10” tail and cut. Pull yarn tail through last stitch and thread tapestry needle. Weave through FLO of 10 sc.

Leave hole open so you can stuff the breast. Use small pieces of PolyFiberFil until you get the desired fullness, be careful not to over stuff. Pull yarn tail to close gap. You can then tuck the yarn tail into the gap with the stuffing.

NOTE:

To wash this item, take yarn tail out of its hiding place and gently use your fingers to loosen up/open the gap. You can now remove the PolyFiberFil. The item can be washed in cool water then lay flat to dry.

Please consider making a pair or two and donating them to your nearest breast cancer center. Please do not sell them, they are desperately needed and I know they will be appreciated in the most heartfelt way!
