I’m still plugging away at creating my own applique patterns for my crochet woodland themed afghan. I actually have so many cute ideas that I am considering enlarging my blanket from afghan size to twin size, or even bigger!
Here is my latest pattern:
Crochet Hiker Applique
Measures approximately 5” tall by 4.5” wide.
- medium worsted weight yarn (4)
16 yards – Red Heart Super Saver in Black
- Crochet hook size G (4.0 mm)
- Tapestry needle
Body is worked upside down, starting at neck.
Row 1: Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, ch 7. Rotate chain toward you, from top to bottom, so that the bottom loops become the top loops. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, sl st, sc 2, sc 3, ch 1, turn (13)
Row 2-3: Sc in same, sc 2, ch 1, turn (3)
Row 4: Sc in same, sc 2, Ch 12, rotate chain and sc in 3rd ch from hook, sc 4, sl st, hdc 4, dc. Now back on body, dc, hdc 2, ch 1, turn (26)
Row 5: Sc in same, sc, sl st, ch 12, sc in 3rd ch from hook, sc 7, dc 3. When you get back to body, sk 2 and sl st, mark this stitch (24) (See image below)
Now slip stitch around entire piece, back to your marker. Fasten off, leave a long tail.
HEAD: MR, 8 hdc in ring, fasten off, leave a long tail.
BACKPACK: Ch 7, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc 4, fasten off, leave long tail.
WALKING STICK: Ch 11, fasten off, leave long tail.
Start by shaping the body piece onto a granny square (7”x7” is perfect) and safety pin it down. Stitch piece down using long yarn tail. Now place and stitch head, back pack, and walking stick.
I’m having a lot of fun with these patterns and I want to thank those of you that have given me your input and ideas! 🙂
