WIP 06/22/17 Woodland Themed Afghan – Red Fox Applique

Hi friends! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far 🙂 Only 2 t-ball games left this season and we can start thinking about traveling this summer. Yay! I’m hoping to get the appliques for this blanket done before our trip. I have 5….maaaayyyybe 7 more to go. I’ve been working on a mountain idea for one but it’s been being a stinker and I keep having to start over on it…. but I will not give up! When it makes me frustrated I just put it aside and start on another applique. Here’s what I’ve come up with next… a cute little red fox!

UPDATE:

I must note, first, that I have updated this post on July 21, 2017 after errors in my pattern were brought to my attention. I reworked the pattern and also added many photos. I hope this clears up any confusion!

Ch 1, sc in same. Now sc 3 using any loop that is behind each of your three “hair tufts”.

I marked the 3 I used in the picture below.

Now sc 3 on ‘cheek’ and sc around the muzzle, sc 3 more on other ‘cheek’. You should be at the hair tufts on the other side of the head. As earlier, use any loop that is behind each of the three hair tufts and make a sc behind each tuft. Sc once more on the head in the stitch between the last hair tuft and the bottom of the ear. Fasten off, weave in ends.

NOSE

With 1 yard of black yarn – Ch 4, sl st into 4th ch from hook and pull yarn through. Stitch on to tip of muzzle.

EYES

Make 2

With 1 yard of deep forest yarn – Ch 2, sl st into 2nd ch from hook and pull yarn through. Stitch eye onto head.

Using 2 yards of black yarn – Stitch outline around eye and add a pupil. Lastly, add eyebrows. For more definition you can use a scrap amount of white yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver) and sew light reflections on each eye.

Use long terracotta yarn end to attach fox to granny square.

Crochet Fox Applique measures approximately 5” tall by 5” wide.

I hope you’ve been enjoying my patterns! As of last night, you can now officially find me on Pinterest! I say ‘officially’ because I know there’s a lot of my appliques already out there in Pinterest-land picked up from my blog, so I thought I should get with the times and create my own page. So far I only have one board with all my applique patterns… but, in time, I will fill it up with more boards! I promise! Click here to check it out!

      1. oh good! I’ve done it half a dozen times and had to rip out it, it just wasn’t working. Glad it’s not just me!! I’ll go crochet my other critters and come back for your fox, which I think is by far the cutest fox applique available.
